Bactroban is an antibiotic used against bacterial infection of the skin.
The drug can be easily used. But before applying Bactroban on the skin, clean and dry the affected area. Once you start to apply the medication, it is better to complete the full amount of the recommended package. Do not stop in the middle if you come across some relief. Always talk to the doctor before you stop applying Bactroban. If the whole amount of the drug is not used there are chances for the infection to come back.
If you have forgotten to apply Bactroban, you can apply it when you remember. But never apply more for the missed dose as it can only cause harm to the body.
While applying Bactroban, take care that the medicine does not enter the eyes, nose and mouth. If it happens, wash with water. Once you have applied Bactroban, you wait for three to five days by which your conditions improve. In case the conditions does not improve or it becomes worse, contact the doctor immediately.
After applying Bactroban on the affected area, do not cover it with any bandage to allow more air circulation in that area. If necessary a light cotton material can be used for covering the area.
Coming to the dose, an overdose with Bactroban is rare. In case you suspect an overdose, it is better to contact the doctor.
It is better not to apply Bactroban if you have any allergies to the medicine. If you have large open wound, the drug should not be used. The medicine contains polyethylene glycol, which may cause damage to kidneys if a large amount of the drug is absorbed through the skin. If Bactroban is ingested, you should have to consult your physician without any delay.
The drug is FDA pregnancy category B, which states that the drug is unlikely to cause any harm to the unborn babe. But when pregnant or hoping to get pregnant, better talk to your doctor before applying Bactroban. Do not apply the drug without talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding.
Once you are advised to use Bactroban, do not apply any other topical preparations on the same area.
It is not known if any serious side effects come with Bactroban. In case you cross any ill feeling, contact your doctor immediately. You have to stop the drug if you experience redness, itching, unusual blistering, dryness, peeling and irritation of the skin. Always watch out for any unusual things and contact your doctor if you feel sick.
The drug should only be used by those for whom it has been prescribed. Never give the drug to others. Bactroban has to be stored in room temperature, away from heat, light and moisture. You should also take care o keep away the drug from children.
